Finding Cheap Car Insurance in North Dakota

Posted on January 18th, 2011

If you are looking for inexpensive car insurance, North Dakota is a good place to live.  According to “ND Reportedly One of the Cheapest States for Auto Insurance,” John Pirro of Online Auto Insurance News discusses results from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC).  Finding cheap car insurance in North Dakota shouldn’t be difficult, according to Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm.

The average price of car insurance in North Dakota is $644.  This includes comprehensive, collision, and liability coverage.  The data from 2008 says that the average rate in America is $903, giving North Dakotans a 28.5% lower rate than the average American.  A State Farm auto quote for a North Dakota resident will save them money over the national average.  The high competition keeps premiums low in North Dakota and makes it a healthy marketplace.

Iowa and Wisconsin were the only two states with cheaper car insurance premiums in 2008.  With the exception of South Dakota whose premiums were close at $651, North Dakota’s other surrounding states had much higher car insurance.  Minnesota’s premiums averaged $780 and Montana’s averaged $829.  North Dakota did actually have the cheapest car insurance when accounting for the average expenditure.  This average expenditure of $503 assumes that while all vehicles have liability insurance, they may not carry collision and comprehensive coverage.

What is the minimum amount of time to get your license in Michigan if you are under 18?

Posted on January 17th, 2011

The minimum amount of time to complete the Michigan Graduated Driver License (GDL) program is a little over 12 months.  You must spend a minimum of 6 months at level 1 and six months at level 2.  It is “a little over” because you must complete segment 1 of a driver’s education program prior to obtaining your level 1 (Learner’s license).

New York lays down Leandra’s law against drunk drivers

Posted on January 17th, 2011

Whether your state calls it DWI, DUI, or DUII, drunk driving is dangerous not only for the driver but also for passengers, other drivers, pedestrians, and property. And driving drunk with a child in the car, who has no choice but to be there, should be treated as a serious crime.

Leandra’s Law

New York evidently felt this way in December 2009 when the state passed Leandra’s Law, which made it a felony to drive under the influence with a child under 15 years old in the car. The law was named after 11-year-old Leandra Rosado, who was killed in October 2009 while riding in a car driven by Carmen Huertas, who was driving drunk and flipped the car.

The second phase of Leandra’s Law went into effect in August 2010, requiring newly convicted drunk drivers to have a breathalyzer interlock installed on their car

Blow and go

A breathalyzer interlock requires the driver to blow into a machine that logs the date, time and estimated blood alcohol content (BAC) of the user.

Holiday shopping season a smashing success for car prowlers.

Posted on January 12th, 2011

I went to a local “Black Friday” shopping event for a great buy on a trampoline. I don’t care how much money I could save on a Christmas gift, I will never, ever, go through that again! However, thousands and thousands of shoppers will spend the next few weeks searching for the perfect gifts, and thousands and thousands of thieves will spend the next few weeks breaking into cars to steal them. ‘Tis the season, indeed.

Christmas gifts left in cars are easy pickings for car prowlers. Shoppers often drop packages off in the car, and return to the mall to continue shopping or have lunch. It only takes a few seconds for a thief to make off with a morning’s shopping haul.

Plan to protect your car and loot

You can avoid this problem with a little planning:

  • See if the stores you shop in will hold your purchases for you, then pick everything up at one time when your shopping day is over.

Dog Bite Prevention, What Can A Dog Owner Do?

Posted on January 11th, 2011

I know she’s cute, I know she’s the fuzziest, cuddliest and sweetest thing you’ve ever seen. But the fact is – no matter how sweet, cute or fuzzy – any dog will bite, given the right circumstance. In fact, most dog bites received by people are from their own dog or one they know. So what can a dog owner do for insurance against dog bites? Here are some helpful tips:

Dog Bite Prevention Tip 1: Select your pet carefully. Many dogs, especially puppies, are selected on emotional impulse. This can be a mistake if you don’t know what behaviors and tendencies to watch for. In fact, before and after you make a selection, a visit to your veterinarian will be valuable for observation of behavior, health and suitability.

Dog Bite Prevention Tip 2: Be aware of socialization. Depending on how your dog or puppy was raised prior to adoption, he or she may have trouble feeling at ease around people and other animals. Gradually e

How to Find the Best Auto Insurance Quote

Posted on January 9th, 2011

You might think that the best way to get an affordable auto insurance quote is to talk to your friends and see who is paying the least, but that is not always the case. For the most part, there is not really one company that, across the board, is less expensive than all the others. Much of what you pay for your car insurance is based on a complex algorithm of factors, some of which we have no control over.

When you get an auto insurance quote, the company is basing your premium on your age, your gender, your car, your driving record, where you live and even your credit score. There are also other factors involved, such as how many miles you drive per year and whether or not your car is kept in a garage.
