Common Auto Insurance Discounts Available For Family Policies

Posted on January 14th, 2012

Lately, it seems that auto insurance, much like health insurance, has been on the rise with respect to cost. The fact remains that in order to drive a vehicle in any state in the US, an auto insurance policy must be obtained. The level and basic coverage allowed is determined by each state which also dictates the cost of such insurance. Of course, each insurance company also decides what they will charge customers and determines a policy premium cost. However, not all is lost when it comes to auto insurance.

Montana Regulators Make It Easier for Consumers to File Complaints

Posted on January 11th, 2012

Montana regulators have introduced an online form for consumer complaints about insurance after 2011 saw a 27 percent increase in funds recovered for policyholders as a result of wrongfully denied claims and improperly issued policies.

The state Commissioner of Securities and Insurance (CSI) recouped $4.7 million on behalf of consumers of auto, home and other types of coverage last year—a $1 million hike from 2010. CSI officials say the new paperless complaint forms are meant to make it easier for consumers who suspect they are being treated unfairly by their coverage providers to alert regulators.

“Things may change, but there will always be complaints,” Lucas Hamilton, CSI communications director, said in a phone interview. “If t

What mobile home insurance may be suitable?

Posted on January 9th, 2012

If you are pondering what mobile home insurance you may need for your particular caravan, there are a few points worth keeping in mind:

  • the term mobile home may not be universally understood by all insurers and you may find that the terms park home or static caravan may be more commonly used;
  • strictly speaking, in typical insurance terms, there is a fundamental difference between a static caravan and a park home in the case of the former, these are typically regarded as being classic caravans occupied for perhaps a couple of weeks or so during the year for holiday purposes, however, a park home is regarded as being your permanent place of residence;
  • as such, the term mobile home may be more closely associated with a park home than a static caravan;
  • if you are wondering what mobile home insurance is appropriate, you may wish to note that typically static caravan insurance may become invalid if you start occupying your static on a permanent basis, treating it has your main place of domicile;
  • the difference between the two forms of insurance is based around the recognition that typically a parkhome may be more extensively and expensively furnished than a holiday caravan it may also contain a higher value of personal items;
  • bear in mind that in the case of either a park home or a static caravan, if you start to rent it out, however infrequently, you may be putting your insurance at risk unless you have commercial use cover included;
  • some site owners may suggest that it would be advantageous to use their own insurance cover for your caravan or static, however, it may be advisable to seek your own quotation to use as a comparison;
  • In the case of both park homes and static caravans, your insurers may regard them as being fundamentally fixed in position (though they may recognise that they are occasionally moved from one position to another on the site or in some cases, possibly into winter storage) so if you do plan to move them it may be advisable to check your policy;
  • this is only a general overview of terminology and different insurers may have different answers to your question, what mobile home insurance is for me?

The Second Greatest Harley Joke of All Time – You Must Have Your Priorities In Order

Posted on January 4th, 2012

Communication is the key to any relationship, and making communication happen in a mutually beneficial way is often more difficult than reaching the shared goal two parties may have in mind.

When it comes to communication with your domestic partner, the equation is further complicated by a fundamental difference in the way people think.

This little gem seems to sum up the problem quite nicely for me

Thanks for this one goes to Guy Proctor

Law Society of B.C. expands lawyers’ professional indemnity coverage to respond to “bad cheque” scams

Posted on January 3rd, 2012

The Law Society of B.C. (LSBC) has broadened the scope of lawyers’ professional indemnity coverage to respond to trust fund shortfalls resulting from various forms of “bad cheque” scams.
Typically, the scams involve between $200,000 and $350,000, with one matrimonial scam approaching $2.6 million, noted a report presented to the law society’s board of directors in December.
The report says a common version of the scam has a client retaining a lawyer to recover an outstanding debt from a third party.
The lawyer sends a demand letter to a third party on behalf of the client. The lawyer will subsequently receive a bank draft from the third party that covers all or a certain portion of the debt owed. The lawyer will then deposit the cheque into a trust account, deduct his or her legal fees, and then issue a trust cheque to the client for the balance.

Gender specific companies will see fewer changes with new law

Posted on January 1st, 2012

Insurance companies with a higher ratio of women than men will have the smallest price change when European Court of Justice equality laws are implemented next year.

News Insurances found that if a company insurers more women than men, the statistics and information they would use to underwrite insurance would more reflect a woman than a man, leaving prices largely unchanged.

“A company that is more equally split will have a greater flow of premium going from women to men and therefor their prices will have to change more,” said Adrian Webb, Head of Communication at Sheilas Wheels.

“With female marketed insurers the ratio is so skewed in the favor of women, that the claims of the men that are with us will not end up having to be subsidised quite as much”

Currently, a company with an equal spread of men and women charge lower premium for women and higher for men based on current claims statistics.

When the laws are implemented it will become illegal to differentiate prices based on gender, so these companies will begin charging men roughly 10% less for car insurance and women around 25% more.

Webb said this ratio would be different for gender marketed companies.

“A large company at the moment that has an equal split of men and women will be charging lower premiums for the women and higher premiums for the men. If those
