Volkswagen Passat named “Top Safety Pick” for 2010

Top Safety Ratings May Help Reduce Low Car Insurance

The 2010 Volkswagen Passat has earned itself the honor of being named a “Top Safety Pick” in the midsize car class by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Passat procured the title by receiving the highest rating of “Good” in each category and overall in the frontal offset crash tests. The Passat sedan, wagon, and CC models were all included in this rating.

Earning this title should be no surprise given the abundance of safety and insurance features that exist on the Passat. Four wheel anti-lock brakes with electronic stability and traction control work in conjunction with an electronic brake-pressure distribution, a feature that distributes the correct amount of braking power to each tire as needed. The tire-pressure monitoring system has a signal in the cabin to alert the driver when the air pressure in any of the tires is too low. The Passat is engineered with a crash optimized front end which absorbs the energy of a front-end crash and concentrates it into the impact-absorbing elements that make up the front structure; this results in the damage going into the vehicle and not into the passengers. A weight-optimized anti-roll bar with telescopic shock absorber arrangement provides security insurance to passengers who suffer a roll-over crash. Daytime running lights round out some of the standard external security elements on the Volkswagen Passat.

Standard safety components on the interior of the Passat include front and side airbags for the driver and front passenger as well as head and side curtain airbags for the same; airbags for rear-seat passengers is optional. Standard optimized front head restraints are integrated into the cabin which minimize whiplash in a rear-end collision. All five seating positions are equipped with three-point safety belts with load limiters and power pretensioners for the driver and front passenger.

German automakers have consistently produced safe, reliable vehicles and the Volkswagen Passat is no exception. The insurance of a secure ride combined with the luxury features German vehicles are known for make for a super smart buy when considering the Passat.
