Trying to compare caravan insurance quotes
Posted on September 23rd, 2011
You may only be able to say that you have the most suitable caravan insurance policy, if you have been able to make an informed choice after being able to compare caravan insurance quotes.
Whether you are buying caravan cover for the first time or are renewing a policy (when the temptation may be to simply renew your old cover without giving it too much thought), you may be able to do better if your first step is to compare caravan insurance quotes.
Different caravan cover providers may offer variations of the features covered and some of these may be more relevant to you than others. What ‘ best for someone else may not provide the best solution for you.
Terms and conditions may be a good example of this.
Some policies may ask that you take some simple steps to help improve caravan safety. Some may find these to be prohibitively restrictive. Others though may consider these to be just common sense. For example:
- you may be advised to keep your caravan on your drive when you are not using it;
- you may be asked to fit approved locks on doors and windows and a tracking device;
- if you have a tourer, you may be required to fit a wheel clamp whenever you leave it unattended and to add a hitchlock if you detach it from your towing vehicle;
- storm damage, which happens to your awning if you leave it out when you are not at your caravan, may be excluded from cover so you may be required to keep it stowed and out of harm’s way while you are out (in case a storm strikes);
- there may be age restrictions on the age of the drivers of tourer towing vehicles or motorhomes.
Other areas where policies may differ significantly may be found in the levels and limits they may use to determine payouts in the event of a claim.
These may include:
- how much may be paid out in damages following a court award against you (public liability);
- the maximum limits that may be payable for individual items of your possessions;
- new for old replacement criteria (typically a combination of the age of your caravan and the number of owners that it has had).
You may typically easily find these things out and more when you compare caravan insurance quotes.
